Hello,
I live in the US and am researching the genealogy of my surname, "Traves". I am so happy to find your wonderful website! Thank you all for your work.
My Traves family immigrated first to British Columbia, Canada (18th - 19th C), then to the US from Lincolnshire, England. They had resided in Lincolnshire for at least 200 - 300 years. The surname was always spelled "Traves" (unless it was misspelled by record keepers.
I enjoy research very much (I teach Art History) and would be grateful for any help or advice you would provide on these questions:
1. Does the surname "Traves" derive from "de Traves"? 2. If so, what resources would help me learn about how and when they immigrated to England? And from what countries after France? 3. Are there any Traves families still remaining in the Burgundy area?
Thank you for your consideration. ![](images/blank.gif) |
